At the same
time other liquid bulk cargoes showed up, like caustic soda for
the paper industries. A lot of such cargo was been discharged
directly from vessel to tank trucks via a portable truck loading
station rigged by us. Not surprisingly, that kind of operation
at public quays was considered to be a quite risky one, which
led us to look for alternatives.
That's when
we decided to change radically our strategy and, in the middle
of 1987, we began the construction of our complex in the Rocio
neighborhood, which consists of a terminal for any liquid product.
Having started
up with a stocking capacity of 38.000 m3, after several expansions
plans our terminal is now prepared to accommodate as far as 89.000
m3 of bulk liquid cargo, in 31 tanks.
Moreover,
our terminal is now provide with a private pier which allows berthing
of two 50.000 DWT vessels simultaneously. As a matter of fact,
depending on vessels dimension we can operate with 3 vessels berthed:
two vessels at the external quay and another at the internal one.
Another important
step on our expansion program was taken in 1987 with the acquisition
of a group of tanks (Terminal 2), which had initially a capacity
for stocking 13.000 m3. Today the Terminal 2, after the construction
of additional 17 tanks, has a total storing capacity of 84.000
m3, with 33 tanks ideally built for stocking high flash point
liquid cargo.
New projects
for enlargement and specialization are in the pipeline. So far,
we are quite satisfied to realize that, in our untiring search
for excellence on services to clients and friends, we have started
from 13.000 m³, in 1981, to finish 2.002 with a 173.000 m³
storing capacity, distributed in 64 tanks.
Last but not
least, we are pleased to announce our latest achievements: we
were granted ISO-1401 certification (Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and
the Pier) and also ANP (Brazilian National Petroleum Agency) authorization
to operate with petroleum derived products. It is also worthwhile
mentioning that since December 23rd, 1999 we are authorized by
Brazilian Customs to work as a customed Terminal.
